UK routes

Claims outside England

The evidence is similar across the UK, but road ownership and the legal framework are not identical.

Wales

The 22 principal councils manage local roads, while the Welsh Government is responsible for motorways and trunk roads. Start with the precise road and postcode, then confirm whether it is part of the trunk network.

Scotland

Local councils manage local roads. Transport Scotland’s trunk roads are maintained through operating companies, and the relevant operator handles the defect or compensation route. A road being an A-road does not by itself prove which route applies.

Northern Ireland

DfI Roads is the single road authority for the public road network. Nidirect provides the central online vehicle-damage compensation process and lists supporting documents, including vehicle, damage and repair evidence.

Confirm before submitting

Postcode geography identifies the likely administrative area, but trunk-road and private-road exceptions still need confirmation. The claim builder shows its confidence and allows a correction before preparing the documents.
